 Healing properties of cornflower

Cornflower contains some active substances which have antioxidant, diuretic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-haemorrhagic, and choleretic properties.

Cornflower blossom - Flos Cyani is an anthocyanin raw material. Anthocyanins improve the microcirculation within the choroid and iris of the eye and activate the reproduction of rhodopsin, which can improve eyesight. In addition, anthocyanins inhibit the activity of elastase and collagenase, stabilize the structure of blood vessels and have an anti-oedematous effect. They seal and strengthen blood vessels. The flower contains about 11% of mineral salts, mainly magnesium and potassium.

Drinking the cornflower tea is recommended for treating many diseases of the urinary system, such as kidney stones or cystitis. This herb is also used for indigestion, poisoning, rheumatism and heart weaknesses. Because of its anti-inflammatory effect it can be used as an eye compress.
